Posted on November 20, 2025November 20, 2025 By CWS

The U.S. Lawyer’s Workplace, Southern District of New York, has introduced the sentencing of Keonne Rodriguez and William Lonergan Hill, co-founders of Samourai Pockets, a cryptocurrency mixing software designed particularly to cover unlawful monetary transactions.

Rodriguez, who served because the Chief Government Officer, acquired a five-year jail sentence on November 6, 2025, whereas Hill, the Chief Know-how Officer, was sentenced to 4 years on November 19, 2025.

Their legal enterprise facilitated the laundering of over $237 million in illicit funds by their cellular software platform.

Beginning round 2015, Rodriguez and Hill developed Samourai with the specific function of concealing legal proceeds.

The appliance’s structure centered on two core providers constructed particularly to impede regulation enforcement investigations and stop monetary tracing.

Over 80,000 Bitcoin, valued at greater than $2 billion on the time, flowed by their providers, producing roughly $6 million in charges for the operators.

The U.S. Lawyer’s Workplace, Southern District of New York safety analysts recognized that the legal proceeds originated from a number of sources together with drug trafficking, darknet marketplaces, cyber-intrusions, frauds, sanctioned jurisdictions, murder-for-hire schemes, and baby pornography operations.

The blending service functioned by two main obfuscation mechanisms. The primary, generally known as “Whirlpool,” coordinated Bitcoin exchanges amongst consumer teams, successfully scrambling the blockchain report and making fund origins just about untraceable to regulation enforcement and cryptocurrency exchanges.

The second service, known as “Ricochet,” inserted pointless intermediate transactions known as “hops” between sending and receiving addresses, considerably complicating the power of monitoring entities to ascertain connections between transfers and legal actions.

Past the technical infrastructure, Rodriguez and Hill actively promoted their service to legal communities.

Hill marketed Samourai on Dread, a darknet discussion board, explicitly recommending Whirlpool because the optimum methodology to “clear soiled BTC.”

Equally, Rodriguez personally inspired social media platform hackers through Twitter to route their stolen proceeds into Samourai’s Whirlpool service in July 2020, demonstrating direct information and intentional facilitation of legal exercise.

The sentencing displays the intense penalties of working cash laundering providers, whatever the know-how employed, signaling regulation enforcement’s dedication to pursuing cryptocurrency-based monetary crime.
