Zscaler Expands with SquareX Acquisition for Enhanced Browser Security

Zscaler Expands with SquareX Acquisition for Enhanced Browser Security

Posted on February 6, 2026 By CWS

Zscaler, a prominent player in the cybersecurity field, has recently acquired SquareX, a company specializing in browser security solutions. The acquisition, announced on Thursday, comes as part of Zscaler’s ongoing strategy to bolster its security offerings. Although the financial details of the deal remain undisclosed, the strategic intent is to enhance Zscaler’s capabilities in securing web browsers.

SquareX’s Innovative Browser Security Solution

SquareX has developed a unique Browser Detection and Response (BDR) technology that upgrades any standard web browser to an enterprise-level secure platform. This solution provides comprehensive threat management, including countering malicious extensions and phishing attacks, directly within the browser environment. The technology is designed to minimize the enterprise attack surface without affecting the user experience.

By integrating SquareX’s technology, Zscaler plans to expand its security reach to include unmanaged devices. This integration will allow organizations to secure their preferred browsers like Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge without the necessity of deploying a full software agent or using a third-party enterprise browser.

Enhancing Zscaler’s Zero Trust Platform

Jay Chaudhry, CEO of Zscaler, emphasized the limitations of traditional VPNs and VDIs, which carry inherent security risks. The acquisition of SquareX aligns with Zscaler’s mission to enhance its Zero Trust Exchange Platform. The integration aims to fortify standard web browsers against security threats without the need for external enterprise browsers.

Vivek Ramachandran, founder of SquareX, noted that the collaboration with Zscaler will empower organizations to secure both SaaS and private applications on any device, whether managed or BYOD, without sacrificing productivity. This strategic move enables IT leaders to replace outdated, insecure access tools with precise Zero Trust policies tailored to specific organizational risks.

Strategic Acquisitions and Future Outlook

This acquisition follows a series of strategic moves by Zscaler, including the planned acquisition of AI security company SPLX announced in November 2025. In recent years, Zscaler has also acquired Red Canary for $675 million, Avalor for $350 million, and AirGap Networks for an undisclosed amount. These acquisitions reflect Zscaler’s commitment to expanding its security capabilities and addressing the evolving needs of enterprise security.

With the acquisition of SquareX finalized on February 5, 2026, Zscaler continues to position itself as a leader in cybersecurity innovation, focusing on delivering comprehensive and secure solutions to enterprises worldwide.
