OpenClaw AI Enhances Security and Anthropic Support

OpenClaw AI Enhances Security and Anthropic Support

Posted on February 18, 2026 By CWS

OpenClaw has unveiled its latest AI framework version 2026.2.17, bringing noteworthy improvements and expanded functionality. This release is particularly significant due to its support for Anthropic’s Claude Sonnet 4.6 model and enhancements aimed at addressing security vulnerabilities.

Anthropic Model Integration

The newly launched OpenClaw version introduces opt-in support for a 1-million-token context window via a beta header feature, enhancing the capability of Opus and Sonnet models. Additionally, the update includes native integration of Claude Sonnet 4.6, ensuring robust performance across various configurations. This integration aligns with OpenClaw’s commitment to advancing AI functionality, despite facing ongoing security challenges.

Developed by steipete and released on February 17, 2026, this update includes forward-compatibility fallbacks for environments where the latest model is not yet available, ensuring flexibility and seamless deployment.

Addressing Security Concerns

Despite these advancements, OpenClaw continues to grapple with significant security issues. A prior vulnerability, CVE-2026-25253, allowed remote code execution through improper authentication handling. Security experts demonstrated how exploitation of token leakage and Cross-Site WebSocket Hijacking could lead to complete system compromise.

An extensive security audit in January 2026 identified over 500 vulnerabilities, with eight deemed critical. The OpenClaw skills marketplace was notably affected, serving as a vector for credential theft and malware distribution. Approximately 336 malicious plugins were identified among 3,000 samples, posing serious security risks.

Enhancements Across Platforms

Beyond addressing security, the 2026.2.17 version introduces significant improvements across various messaging and automation platforms. These enhancements include single-message text streaming for Slack, an iOS share extension for easier content sharing, and improved subagent management through deterministic chat commands.

Additional features encompass URL allowlists for web tools, cron job webhook delivery with telemetry tracking, and enhanced Discord components with reusable buttons and user access controls. These updates reflect OpenClaw’s dedication to integrating advanced functionalities while maintaining a focus on security and usability.

The latest release underscores OpenClaw’s ongoing efforts to refine its AI framework amidst a challenging cybersecurity landscape. As the platform evolves, users can anticipate further enhancements that balance innovation with robust security measures.
