Cyber Group Claims Massive Data Breach at Odido

Cyber Group Claims Massive Data Breach at Odido

Posted on February 24, 2026 By CWS

The notorious cybercriminal group ShinyHunters has allegedly claimed responsibility for a significant data breach affecting the Dutch telecommunications company, Odido, and its associated brand, BEN. This breach reportedly involves the exposure of 21 million records from 8 million customers, suggesting a scale of impact far greater than initially revealed.

Sensitive Information Allegedly Compromised

The compromised data is said to include plaintext passwords, which has caused a considerable stir online due to the severe security implications. Alongside passwords, the exposed information purportedly comprises passport numbers, driver’s license numbers, International Bank Account Numbers (IBANs), residential and email addresses, as well as internal corporate documents and source code.

ShinyHunters has accused Odido of minimizing the severity of the breach in their disclosures, claiming the company downplayed the scope of the incident. This has escalated public concern about Odido’s transparency and its approach to handling the breach.

Implications of the Data Breach

The revelation of storing passwords without proper encryption is particularly alarming, as it increases the risk of account takeovers and credential-stuffing attacks across various platforms. The potential misuse of government-issued identification numbers and banking details further exacerbates the threat of identity theft and financial fraud among affected customers.

The International Cyber Digest recently highlighted these concerns, emphasizing the exposure of internal documents and source code as a potential threat to Odido’s corporate security and intellectual property. If malicious entities exploit the source code, they may identify further vulnerabilities within the company’s infrastructure.

Public Reaction and Ongoing Concerns

Public response has been swift and critical, with social media users expressing disbelief and frustration over the alleged storage of plaintext passwords and Odido’s perceived lack of transparency. Concerns have also been raised regarding the company’s data retention practices, particularly the storage of data from former customers.

Although Odido has yet to confirm the specific details claimed by ShinyHunters, this incident highlights the persistent threat posed by sophisticated cybercriminal groups and underscores the critical need for robust data protection measures within the telecommunications industry. If the claims are validated, Odido could face significant regulatory scrutiny and damage to its reputation.
