OpenAI Introduces Advanced AI Vulnerability Scanner

OpenAI Introduces Advanced AI Vulnerability Scanner

Posted on March 10, 2026 By CWS

OpenAI has unveiled its latest innovation, an AI-driven software vulnerability scanner named Codex Security, set to revolutionize the way complex software issues are identified. This new tool, still in its research preview phase, has already undergone extensive private beta testing, attracting interest from major companies like Netgear.

Exclusive Access for Select OpenAI Users

Codex Security is now accessible to ChatGPT Pro, Enterprise, Business, and Edu users, with the company offering complimentary usage for the next month. This strategic rollout signifies OpenAI’s commitment to providing robust security solutions tailored to various customer needs.

The tool is engineered to scrutinize repositories, constructing a threat model that evaluates system roles, trusted components, and potential exposures. This comprehensive analysis enables Codex to pinpoint vulnerabilities and assess their real-world impact, subsequently suggesting effective patches.

Impressive Testing and Results

OpenAI reports that Codex Security has been rigorously tested on 1.2 million commits over the last 30 days, successfully identifying approximately 800 critical vulnerabilities alongside over 10,000 high-severity issues. These findings underscore the tool’s efficiency, especially in widely used open-source projects such as Chromium, OpenSSL, PHP, GOGS, and GnuTLS.

This announcement coincides with Claude’s recent launch of its own AI vulnerability scanner, Claude Code Security, a development that has notably impacted the stock performance of leading cybersecurity firms.

AI Vulnerability Scanners: A Growing Trend

AI-powered vulnerability scanners are not a novel concept. GitHub has long provided similar capabilities, while Google continues to make strides in this domain. The introduction of Codex Security highlights the growing importance of advanced AI tools in cybersecurity.

As the tech landscape evolves, OpenAI’s Codex Security represents a significant leap forward in addressing software vulnerabilities, offering a glimpse into the future of cybersecurity solutions.

The competitive nature of AI vulnerability scanning technologies signals a dynamic shift in cybersecurity, promising more sophisticated and effective tools to safeguard digital infrastructures worldwide.
