Anthropic Enhances Claude Cowork with New Projects Feature

Anthropic Enhances Claude Cowork with New Projects Feature

Posted on March 20, 2026 By CWS

Anthropic has announced a significant enhancement to its Claude Cowork Desktop application with the introduction of a Projects feature. This new addition is designed to streamline workflow by keeping files, instructions, and task context organized within a single workspace, offering users a more cohesive experience.

Benefits for Paid Users

The latest update introduces an array of functionalities aimed at paid subscribers, allowing them to start new projects seamlessly, import existing chats, or connect local folders. This ensures continuity of work without the hassle of losing context between sessions, thus enhancing productivity.

Originally launched in January 2026 as a research preview, Claude Cowork was designed to extend the agentic workflow capabilities of Claude Code to a broader audience. Initially available to Pro subscribers, Anthropic expanded access to include Team and Enterprise plans shortly after its debut on macOS, eventually rolling out to Windows users.

Unique Features of Cowork

Unlike traditional AI chat interfaces, Claude Cowork allows users to grant access to specific folders, enabling the AI to read, edit, and create files directly. This functionality positions Cowork as a robust tool for multi-step tasks such as file reorganization, spreadsheet generation from screenshots, and report drafting from scattered notes.

With the Projects feature, users can now maintain tasks and context focused in one place, enhancing workflow management. This capability transforms the conventional session-based interaction into a more persistent workspace, crucial for research-heavy tasks where maintaining context is essential.

Future Developments and User Feedback

Anthropic emphasizes user control over which folders and connectors Claude can access, maintaining privacy and security. Initial feedback indicates the Projects feature effectively addresses user needs for long-term research and operational workflows. However, some users have requested broader support for external drives and more transparency regarding future feature developments.

Looking ahead, Anthropic has hinted at potential updates including cross-device synchronization and enhanced safety features, suggesting ongoing development to meet evolving user needs. This points to a promising trajectory as the platform continues to mature, making Claude Cowork an increasingly practical tool for everyday use.
