Apple Blocks 2 Million App Store Apps for Security in 2025

In 2025, Apple took significant steps to enhance security by rejecting over 2 million applications from the App Store. Additionally, the company thwarted the creation of more than 1.1 million fraudulent accounts, showcasing its commitment to maintaining a secure platform for both users and developers.

AI and Human Review in Fraud Prevention

Apple’s strategy combines artificial intelligence with human oversight, which has been crucial in preventing more than $2.2 billion in potentially fraudulent transactions this year alone. Over the past six years, these efforts have safeguarded over $11 billion. By implementing these protective measures, Apple not only shields its users but also supports developers in thriving within a global market.

With over 850 million weekly visitors across 175 storefronts, the App Store remains a pivotal destination for digital applications. The company’s ongoing efforts ensure that the marketplace remains a safe and reliable environment for users worldwide.

Developer Account Vigilance

Last year, Apple deactivated 40.4 million accounts due to fraud and abuse allegations. Additionally, the company rejected 138,000 developer enrollments and terminated 193,000 developer accounts suspected of fraudulent activity. These actions underscore Apple’s dedication to maintaining the integrity of its developer community.

Moreover, Apple identified and blocked 28,000 illicit apps on unauthorized platforms that distributed harmful software, including malware and pirated applications. This demonstrates Apple’s proactive stance against unauthorized app distribution channels.

Advanced AI Enhancements

Apple’s use of advanced AI has enabled the company to swiftly identify complex malicious patterns. This has led to the timely flagging of fraudulent apps, including those engaging in deceptive practices, containing hidden features, or violating Apple’s policies.

In the last month alone, Apple prevented 2.9 million attempts to install or launch unauthorized apps. Furthermore, out of 1.3 billion ratings and reviews processed last year, approximately 195 million were blocked due to fraudulent activity.

The company’s efforts culminated in the prevention of over $2.2 billion in fraudulent transactions, the blocking of more than 5.4 million stolen credit card attempts, and the banning of nearly 2 million user accounts from engaging in further transactions.

These comprehensive security measures ensure that the App Store remains a secure and trustworthy platform, reflecting Apple’s commitment to protecting both users and developers while promoting a safe digital ecosystem.
