Announced on Monday, this initiative seeks to foster the development and distribution of open-source tools, models, and methods for safeguarding AI technologies.
Collaboration Among Tech Leaders
This new alliance builds upon the groundwork laid by the Linux Foundation’s Akrites initiative and the OpenSSF community. Among the initial members are prominent firms such as Adobe, Cadence, and Capital One, joined by others like Cisco, Cloudera, and Cloudflare. The broad partnership also includes tech giants Microsoft and IBM, as well as innovative companies like Hugging Face and SpaceXAI.
Nvidia’s specific contributions to the alliance include providing open models, weights, and data, alongside research into agent harnesses. The newly launched NOOA project, which facilitates the tracing and auditing of AI agent behavior, is a key part of their effort.
Innovative Contributions and Tools
The alliance is set to benefit from various member contributions, such as HPE’s work on the SPIFFE/SPIRE identity framework, which ensures cryptographic verification of AI agents. Hugging Face is contributing its Safetensors model weight storage format to the PyTorch Foundation, enhancing model security.
IBM and Red Hat are extending their focus on open-source supply chain security through the Lightwell project, which aims to automate vulnerability remediation. Meanwhile, Microsoft is providing MDASH, a tool for coordinating AI agents to detect and assess software vulnerabilities.
