Fortinet, a leader in cybersecurity, has announced its acquisition of Virtue AI, a company specializing in AI security. This strategic move, revealed on Monday, is set to enhance Fortinet’s existing capabilities in safeguarding AI models and applications.
Enhancing AI Security Capabilities
Virtue AI’s platform is designed to provide automated testing, real-time protection, and compliance oversight tailored for AI models and autonomous systems. Among its features is an automated red-teaming component that identifies vulnerabilities through over 100 proprietary attack algorithms across numerous risk categories.
The platform also offers a simulated testing environment for autonomous systems, evaluating tool usage and multi-step workflows in various enterprise scenarios. This ensures comprehensive assessment of agent tool interactions and system access.
Real-time Protection and Monitoring
During operations, Virtue AI’s platform implements real-time guardrails across diverse media such as text, code, audio, and video. It actively monitors to prevent unsafe actions, scanning generated outputs for vulnerabilities, and enforcing adaptable security policies.
Fortinet plans to integrate these capabilities to bolster its AI security services, focusing on continuous validation and governance of AI systems. This acquisition represents a significant step in Fortinet’s strategy to offer robust AI assurance across enterprise operations.
Strategic Acquisition Details
While financial specifics of the deal remain undisclosed, Fortinet has indicated that the transaction is not financially significant to its business. Virtue AI had previously secured $30 million in funding through seed and Series A rounds in 2025.
Ken Xie, Fortinet’s founder and CEO, emphasized the importance of evolving security measures to match the rapid advancements in AI technology. He noted that Virtue AI’s innovations would support Fortinet’s vision of providing continuous assurance and protection for AI systems.
Fortinet’s acquisition of Virtue AI is part of a broader trend in cybersecurity mergers and acquisitions, with over 240 deals recorded this year according to SecurityWeek’s tracker. This strategic move positions Fortinet to better meet the growing demands for secure AI systems in enterprise environments.
