Microsoft Releases 22 Security Updates for Critical Flaws

Microsoft Releases 22 Security Updates for Critical Flaws

Posted on August 21, 2026 By CWS

Microsoft has launched 22 new security patches addressing significant vulnerabilities in a variety of their products. This announcement, made on Thursday, highlights the company’s ongoing efforts to enhance cybersecurity across its platforms.

Key Security Flaws Addressed

The majority of the updates target critical and high-severity vulnerabilities in Microsoft Azure, Entra ID, Exchange, Fabric, and Partner Center. Among the most severe are elevation of privilege (EoP) flaws identified in Azure SQL Database (CVE-2026-69502), Azure Arc (CVE-2026-69555 and CVE-2026-65816), and Exchange Online (CVE-2026-65801). Remote code execution (RCE) vulnerabilities were also resolved in Azure Managed Instance for Apache Cassandra (CVE-2026-65770) and Entra ID (CVE-2026-69836), each carrying a critical CVSS score of 10/10.

Additional Vulnerabilities Patched

Seven other critical EoP vulnerabilities have been addressed, including those in Azure SQL Database (CVE-2026-68782, CVE-2026-68789, CVE-2026-66309), Microsoft Fabric (CVE-2026-63509), Entra ID (CVE-2026-69851), Azure Logic Apps (CVE-2026-69400), and Azure Data Factor (CVE-2026-62834). Furthermore, Microsoft resolved high-severity defects in various services such as Azure Virtual Machines, Microsoft Partner Center, Azure Data Factory, Azure Stack HCI, and others.

Impact and Future Outlook

Most of these security issues do not require customer action as Microsoft has implemented server-side mitigations. Earlier this week, a high-severity command injection issue in Copilot was also addressed (CVE-2026-24301). In addition, Microsoft is actively working on a patch for ShieldBreak, a high-severity vulnerability in Microsoft Defender, disclosed by security researcher Nightmare Eclipse.

The ShieldBreak vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2026-69414 with a CVSS score of 7.8, underscores the importance of Microsoft’s commitment to providing robust security updates. As the company continues to address these vulnerabilities, users are advised to stay informed and apply updates promptly to safeguard their systems.
