Hasbro, a leading toy and game company, has alerted its workforce about a potential compromise of their personal data due to a recent security breach. The company has taken measures to inform those impacted, outlining the possible exposure of sensitive information.
Details of the Data Breach
The notification sent to Hasbro employees suggests that the data breach may have exposed various personal details such as names, email and postal addresses, phone numbers, national ID numbers, and financial information. The specific data exposed varies for each individual.
This information was disclosed in letters submitted by Hasbro to the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office. However, the total number of affected individuals remains unclear. While the Massachusetts notification mentions 436 impacted residents, Hasbro employs around 4,600 people worldwide, predominantly in the United States, according to Revelio Labs data.
Potential Links to March Cyberattack
At present, no notifications have been published on other Attorney General websites. There is speculation that this breach might be connected to a cyberattack targeting Hasbro in late March, which prompted the company to temporarily shut down some systems, causing operational disruptions.
SecurityWeek inquired if the current breach is related to the March incident, but Hasbro has not provided a direct confirmation. A company spokesperson disclosed that they identified a security incident earlier in the year and responded promptly by enlisting external cybersecurity experts to investigate the breach and assess any potential data access.
Response and Protective Measures
According to Hasbro’s investigation, personal data of some current and former employees might have been accessed during the breach. The company emphasized that there is no evidence suggesting misuse of the data, nor any indication of future exploitation.
In a cautionary move, Hasbro is offering identity protection services through a third-party provider to those affected by the breach. No cybercrime organization has claimed responsibility or listed Hasbro on leak websites to date.
As data breaches become increasingly frequent, companies like Hasbro are taking proactive steps to safeguard personal information and mitigate potential impacts. Ongoing investigations and protective measures continue to be pivotal in managing cybersecurity risks effectively.
