Amazon Strengthens Board with Cybersecurity Expert

Posted on September 10, 2026 By CWS

Amazon has bolstered its board of directors by appointing seasoned cybersecurity expert Kevin Mandia, enhancing its security knowledge at the highest corporate level. This strategic move was officially announced following Mandia’s election to the board on September 8.

Kevin Mandia’s Extensive Cybersecurity Background

With over three decades of experience in tackling cyber threats across both public and private sectors, Kevin Mandia brings invaluable insights to Amazon. He is widely recognized for founding the cybersecurity firm Armadin and co-founding cybersecurity-focused venture capital firm Ballistic Ventures.

Mandia’s notable achievements include founding Mandiant, a leading incident response and threat intelligence company. Initially acquired by FireEye in 2013, Mandiant regained its independence in 2021 and was subsequently integrated into Google Cloud after Google’s acquisition in 2022.

Key Roles and Contributions

Before his private sector success, Mandia served as a computer security officer at the Pentagon and a special agent in the Air Force Office of Special Investigations. His expertise has also been recognized through his participation in the National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s Advisory Committee.

Amazon highlighted Mandia’s track record in defending extensive organizations and investing in innovative security companies as pivotal to guiding the board amidst evolving cybersecurity challenges, especially with advancements in artificial intelligence.

Amazon’s Commitment to Security

Amazon expressed its dedication to incorporating diverse expertise and perspectives within its board, emphasizing the importance of Mandia’s election in maintaining robust security measures. This appointment aligns with Amazon’s ongoing efforts to address cybersecurity risks effectively.

As technology continues to advance, Amazon’s decision to integrate a cybersecurity veteran like Kevin Mandia into its board underscores the company’s proactive approach to navigating and mitigating potential cyber threats.
