Data Breach Affects 280,000 at Premier Medical Group

Data Breach Affects 280,000 at Premier Medical Group

Posted on September 16, 2026 By CWS

Premier Medical Group (PMG), a healthcare provider in New York, is alerting more than 280,000 patients about a data breach that compromised their personal and medical records. The incident, which occurred in June, has raised concerns about patient privacy and data security within the healthcare sector.

Extent of the Breach

PMG provides specialized care in various fields such as cardiology, dermatology, and neurology across multiple locations in the Hudson Valley. During the breach, attackers managed to disrupt some of PMG’s systems, as stated in their incident notice. The investigation revealed that on June 14, unauthorized access was gained to specific files containing sensitive patient information.

The data exposed in the breach includes patients’ names, contact details, birth dates, treatment records, medication information, health insurance data, service dates, provider names, and internal patient ID numbers. This revelation underscores the importance of robust cybersecurity measures in protecting sensitive health data.

Recommendations for Affected Patients

In response to the breach, PMG has advised patients to carefully review statements from their healthcare providers and health insurance plans. Any discrepancies, such as unrecognized services, should prompt immediate contact with their provider or insurance company. This proactive step is crucial in mitigating potential misuse of their personal information.

The breach has been reported to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), which has subsequently added PMG to its public data breach portal. This listing serves as an official acknowledgment of the incident and highlights its significant impact on affected individuals.

Investigation and Future Precautions

As of now, PMG has not disclosed specific details regarding the method of attack or the identity of the perpetrators. Moreover, there has been no claim of responsibility from known ransomware or extortion groups. The absence of such claims adds an additional layer of complexity to the ongoing investigation into the breach’s origins.

This incident at PMG is a part of a larger trend of cyber attacks targeting healthcare providers. Similar breaches have recently impacted entities like Texas’s CenterPoint Energy and Japan’s Digital Agency, emphasizing the necessity for healthcare organizations to enhance their cybersecurity infrastructure to safeguard patient information.

Moving forward, PMG and other healthcare entities must prioritize enhancing their data protection measures to prevent future breaches and maintain patient trust.
