Firefox 149.0 Introduces Free VPN with 50GB Limit

Firefox 149.0 Introduces Free VPN with 50GB Limit

Posted on March 25, 2026 By CWS

Mozilla has officially launched Firefox 149.0, a major update that emphasizes enhanced user privacy and security. Released on March 24, 2026, this version introduces a range of features aimed at protecting users online.

The highlight of this release is the integration of a free VPN service, providing users with 50 GB of encrypted data each month. This addition, along with crucial security patches and improved site notification blocking, marks a significant step forward in web safety.

Free VPN Secures Browsing

The most notable feature in Firefox 149.0 is the introduction of a built-in VPN service. This tool allows users to route their internet traffic through an encrypted proxy, effectively concealing their IP address and physical location. The VPN’s 50 GB monthly data limit is ideal for safeguarding users on public Wi-Fi networks or during sensitive online activities such as banking.

Users have the flexibility to manage VPN activation on a site-by-site basis. Currently, the service is being rolled out progressively in the US, UK, Germany, and France, with plans for global availability after initial testing phases.

Innovative Features Enhance User Experience

In addition to the VPN, Firefox 149.0 offers several features designed to improve user interaction and security. The Split View feature allows simultaneous viewing of two web pages, facilitating easy comparison and research. Automated security measures now block malicious site notifications, enhancing protection against online threats.

The Unified TrustPanel consolidates privacy and security settings into a single, accessible dashboard. This feature empowers users to quickly assess their connection’s security and identify blocked tracking elements.

Performance and Accessibility Improvements

Firefox 149.0 also focuses on performance enhancements. PDF files now load up to three times faster, thanks to new hardware acceleration. The release includes experimental features like Tab Notes, enabling users to attach personal reminders to web pages.

Mozilla has expanded its global reach with new on-device translation support for languages including Bosnian and Thai. Additionally, an enhanced Address Autofill feature is now available in several countries, and a new Share button simplifies content sharing.

Overall, Firefox 149.0 not only prioritizes security but also enhances user workflow with its innovative features. As Mozilla continues to strengthen its defenses against emerging web threats, this update represents a significant advancement in secure and efficient browsing.
