Stryker Hit by Major Cyberattack Linked to Iran

Stryker Hit by Major Cyberattack Linked to Iran

Posted on March 11, 2026 By CWS

Medical Technology Leader Faces Cyber Threat

The renowned medical technology firm Stryker has recently been subjected to a significant cyberattack, purportedly executed by a hacker group with connections to Iran. This incident has resulted in extensive disruption to the company’s global operations.

Impact on Stryker’s Operations

Renowned for its expertise in producing surgical tools, orthopedic solutions, and neurotechnology, Stryker is a key player in the global healthcare sector. Based in Michigan, this Fortune 500 company boasts a workforce of approximately 56,000 and reported revenues exceeding $25 billion in 2025. Its pivotal role in healthcare makes it a crucial supplier to hospitals worldwide.

The hacker group, identified as Handala, has claimed responsibility for the attack. They assert that the assault has inflicted an ‘unprecedented blow’ on Stryker. Allegedly, more than 200,000 servers and devices were compromised, leading to the shutdown of company offices across 79 countries, and 50TB of data was reportedly stolen.

Details of the Cyberattack

According to reports from The Wall Street Journal, Stryker confirmed the occurrence of a cyber incident that led to a global outage. Employees and contractors encountered the Handala logo on login screens, indicating the reach of the cyber intrusion.

The attack predominantly targeted Windows systems, erasing data from phones, laptops, and other network-connected devices. In response, Stryker advised its staff to refrain from using company devices and to immediately disconnect from all networks.

Understanding the Handala Group

The Handala group, active since the start of the US-Israel-Iran conflict, is under close scrutiny by cybersecurity experts. While they present themselves as a hacktivist collective supporting pro-Palestinian and anti-Israeli causes, many experts suspect a connection to Void Manticore, a threat actor linked to the Iranian government.

Handala is notorious for its cyber tactics, which include phishing, data theft, and deploying destructive malware. Cyber intelligence firm Flashpoint highlights their involvement in psychological operations and information warfare. The group has previously claimed responsibility for various high-profile cyber activities, including attacks on Israeli infrastructure and organizations.

Despite their bold claims, often publicized on platforms like Telegram and X, verifying Handala’s assertions can be challenging. The ongoing investigation into the Stryker incident will likely shed more light on the group’s capabilities and motives.
