Meta Unveils Advanced Anti-Scam Features on Key Platforms

Meta Unveils Advanced Anti-Scam Features on Key Platforms

Posted on March 13, 2026 By CWS

Meta has introduced a comprehensive suite of anti-scam tools across its major platforms, including WhatsApp, Facebook, and Messenger. This initiative aims to address the increasing sophistication of online fraud. By leveraging artificial intelligence, issuing behavioral alerts, and collaborating with global law enforcement, Meta seeks to safeguard users from scams.

AI-Driven Security Enhancements

These newly launched tools utilize AI to proactively detect and warn users about potential scams. Specific alerts are integrated into the ecosystem to protect users from evolving social engineering tactics. This layer of security is designed to notify individuals before they engage with potentially malicious actors.

For instance, WhatsApp now includes alerts about device linking requests. This feature aims to prevent unauthorized account access by providing users with detailed information about the request’s origin.

Enhanced Warnings on Social Platforms

Meta is also testing warnings for suspicious friend requests on Facebook. Users are notified when friend requests come from accounts with unusual activity, such as lacking mutual friends or originating from unexpected geographic locations. This measure is part of Meta’s broader effort to enhance user safety.

On Messenger, advanced algorithms are employed to recognize common fraud patterns. Users are prompted to review suspicious chats, particularly those that might involve fake job offers, ensuring an additional layer of protection.

Global Impact and Future Outlook

In 2025, Meta’s operations effectively removed over 159 million scam advertisements, with a proactive removal rate of 92%. In India alone, over 12.1 million fraudulent ads were banned, and 10.9 million accounts linked to scam activities were dismantled. This includes accounts associated with Southeast Asian syndicates involved in digital fraud.

Looking ahead, Meta plans to expand its advertiser verification program to ensure that verified advertisers drive the majority of its ad revenue by 2026. Additionally, through partnerships with organizations like the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre and SEBI, Meta continues to educate users about identifying online threats.

In conclusion, Meta’s ongoing efforts to enhance user security highlight its commitment to combating online scams. By deploying advanced technologies and fostering collaborations, Meta aims to create a safer digital environment for its user base.
