On Thursday, privacy-centric mobile carrier Cape announced a successful Series C funding round, securing $100 million. This latest investment elevates the company’s total funding to $191 million, marking a significant milestone in its journey to enhance cellular security.
Leading Investors and Strategic Goals
The funding round was spearheaded by Bain Capital Ventures and IVP, with support from 01 Advisors, 137 Ventures, Definition, and Fifth Down Capital. These investments are set to bolster Cape’s mission to offer a more secure mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) service in the United States, leveraging eSIM technology.
By managing its own mobile core and utilizing leased infrastructure from traditional carriers, Cape embeds advanced security measures directly into the network layer. This approach helps mitigate risks associated with cellular threats such as unauthorized tracking and data interception.
Innovative Security Features
Cape’s service includes daily changing SIM identifiers to hinder persistent tracking of devices. Furthermore, it incorporates network-level defenses against SS7-based attacks, which are often employed for location tracking and call interception.
The platform also offers end-to-end encryption for certain messaging services, user-controlled SIM swap protections, and limits data retention. Additional features include multiple secondary phone numbers on a single SIM card and encrypted voicemail, catering to users who require robust privacy and security in their mobile communications.

John Doyle, CEO of Cape, highlighted the vulnerabilities in current mobile networks, stating, “Cell phone networks track everywhere you go, every app you use, every person you call or text. When compromised, these networks can lead to significant breaches of both national security and personal privacy.” Doyle emphasized the need for a fundamental redesign of telecommunication systems to address these inherent flaws.
