Data Breach Affects 250,000 at Nacogdoches Hospital

Data Breach Affects 250,000 at Nacogdoches Hospital

Posted on April 2, 2026 By CWS

Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital (NMH) has informed 250,000 individuals that their personal and health data may have been exposed in a data security incident. The hospital identified a breach on January 31, when unauthorized individuals infiltrated its network and information systems.

Details of the Breach

The hospital alerted the Maine Attorney General’s Office this week, reporting that the breach potentially affected the sensitive information of 257,073 people. The compromised data includes a wide range of personal details such as names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, Social Security numbers, and dates of birth. Additionally, medical record numbers, account numbers, health plan beneficiary numbers, and photographs might have been accessed.

In communications sent to those impacted, NMH stated that there is no current evidence of misuse of the compromised personal or health information. Despite this assurance, the hospital is urging affected individuals to stay alert and monitor their financial accounts and report any unusual activities.

Response and Security Measures

Upon discovering the security breach, NMH took immediate action to secure its computer systems and enhance its security protocols. The hospital also notified law enforcement authorities about the incident. However, details about the perpetrators behind the attack have not been disclosed, and no known ransomware groups have claimed responsibility.

NMH, established in December 1928 in Nacogdoches, Texas, operates a 226-bed facility offering a range of healthcare services, including emergency and cardiac care. The hospital’s commitment to patient care remains steadfast despite the breach.

Implications and Future Outlook

While the hospital has not offered free identity theft or credit monitoring services to those affected, it emphasizes the importance of vigilance in protecting personal information. As cyber threats continue to pose risks to healthcare institutions, NMH’s incident highlights the critical need for robust cybersecurity measures.

The breach at NMH is part of a troubling trend of cyber attacks targeting healthcare providers. Other recent incidents include breaches at CareCloud and impacts from the LiteLLM supply chain attack. As the healthcare sector remains a prime target for cybercriminals, enhancing data protection strategies becomes increasingly essential.
