Data Breach Affects 1 Million Members at Europe’s Top Gym

Posted on April 14, 2026 By CWS

Basic-Fit, recognized as Europe’s leading gym and fitness chain, has announced a significant data breach impacting the personal details of approximately 1 million members. The Dutch company revealed this security incident in a press release issued on Monday.

Immediate Response and Investigation

The company reported that it identified unauthorized access to its systems, which was promptly interrupted within a few minutes. Following this, an investigation was initiated, uncovering that sensitive information from members in various countries had been illicitly downloaded by the perpetrator.

The compromised data includes names, email addresses, physical addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth, and bank account details. However, Basic-Fit assured in their statement that no identification documents or passwords were accessed during this breach.

Wide-Ranging Impact Across Multiple Countries

With a membership base exceeding 5 million and over 1,500 clubs throughout Europe, Basic-Fit detailed that about 200,000 members from the Netherlands alone were affected. The company further disclosed to media outlets that the breach impacts approximately 1 million members in total, spanning countries like Spain, Germany, France, Belgium, and Luxembourg.

The identity of the attacker remains unknown, and Basic-Fit has not attributed the breach to any specific ransomware group. Furthermore, there is no evidence at this time suggesting that the stolen data has been leaked or used maliciously.

Ongoing Efforts and Future Measures

Although the breach was contained quickly, Basic-Fit is taking additional measures to safeguard its systems and prevent future incidents. The company has not disclosed specific details about the steps being taken but has emphasized its commitment to maintaining the security of its members’ data.

This incident serves as a reminder of the growing challenges in cybersecurity that organizations face globally, especially those handling extensive personal data. As investigations continue, members are advised to stay vigilant and monitor their accounts for any unusual activity.

For further updates, Basic-Fit encourages members to follow official communications and remain aware of potential scams that may arise in the wake of this breach.
