Medtronic Confirms Breach Amid ShinyHunters Threat

Medtronic Confirms Breach Amid ShinyHunters Threat

Posted on April 28, 2026 By CWS

Medtronic, a leading name in medical technology, has officially confirmed a security breach following claims by the cybercriminal group ShinyHunters. The group alleges it has accessed millions of records from the company.

Medtronic’s Global Presence

As one of the foremost companies in its field, Medtronic offers a vast array of medical solutions, ranging from pacemakers to advanced surgical systems. The company employs over 95,000 individuals across 150 nations worldwide.

Despite the breach, Medtronic assured there have been no disruptions to its products, patient safety, or operational capabilities. The company emphasized the separation of its corporate IT systems from hospital networks, which are independently managed by the hospitals’ IT teams.

Data Security Measures

While Medtronic has not yet confirmed any specific data theft, it is actively investigating the scope of personal information potentially accessed. The company remains committed to protecting its data and systems, highlighting the distinct segmentation of its IT infrastructure.

The ShinyHunters group had listed Medtronic on its leak site on April 17, claiming access to over nine million records containing personal data and extensive corporate information. The hackers demanded ransom, threatening data exposure if unmet by April 21.

Response and Industry Implications

Following these developments, Medtronic’s name has been removed from ShinyHunters’ leak site, suggesting a possible resolution, potentially involving a ransom payment. SecurityWeek has contacted Medtronic for further comments, awaiting their response.

In a related disclosure, Medtronic’s diabetes-focused subsidiary, MiniMed, reported to the SEC that its systems were unaffected by the breach. The incident raises critical concerns about cybersecurity within the healthcare sector.

As cybersecurity threats continue to evolve, Medtronic’s response to this breach will be closely monitored by industry experts and stakeholders, underscoring the importance of robust data protection measures in safeguarding sensitive information.
