File Access Restored for Microsoft Office Web Users

File Access Restored for Microsoft Office Web Users

Posted on June 1, 2026 By CWS

Microsoft recently resolved a significant service disruption that affected users’ ability to access files via Office for the Web and Microsoft Teams. This outage, tracked as MO1329446, was marked by elevated error rates across these platforms, as confirmed by the company.

Identifying the Service Disruption

The issue first emerged with widespread reports from users who experienced failures when trying to open documents, spreadsheets, or presentations through the web-based Office suite or Teams. This disruption potentially impacted millions of enterprise users globally, hindering collaboration.

Microsoft’s engineering team was quick to acknowledge the issue, stating their awareness of the problem and an ongoing investigation into why users were unable to open files. Elevated error rates were detected across multiple Office for the Web services, indicating a broader issue.

Analysis and Investigation

To address the disruption, Microsoft’s engineers conducted a detailed analysis of service telemetry. This analysis helped identify the scope of the failure and allowed engineers to correlate error patterns across different service dependencies. The investigation suggested that a shared backend component or infrastructure layer might have been the disruption’s source, similar to previous Azure-related incidents.

Although Microsoft has not publicly disclosed whether the disruption was due to a code deployment, configuration change, or infrastructure fault, the restoration of services was confirmed. The company has provided detailed incident information under MO1329446 in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.

Moving Forward

Organizations relying on Microsoft 365 for essential workflows are encouraged to monitor the Microsoft 365 Service Health Dashboard for real-time updates. Setting up alerts in the admin center can offer proactive notifications during future service outages.

For enterprises seeking detailed timelines and remediation steps from this incident, Microsoft advises reviewing the post-incident report available through their admin portals. Ensuring preparedness for potential future disruptions is crucial for maintaining seamless operations.

The resolution of this issue underscores the importance of robust systems and timely communication in managing cloud-based service disruptions, highlighting the need for continuous monitoring and rapid response strategies.
