Kodak Acknowledges Data Breach Amid ShinyHunters Threat

Kodak Acknowledges Data Breach Amid ShinyHunters Threat

Posted on June 17, 2026 By CWS

Kodak has publicly confirmed a cybersecurity breach after the ShinyHunters group threatened to release personal and corporate data online. The notorious extortion syndicate claims to have obtained over 2.2 million records, including customer personal identifiable information (PII).

Details of the Cybersecurity Breach

The incident was first identified on June 15, 2026, when ShinyHunters, a prominent cybercrime group, listed Kodak on its dark web leak platform. Kodak has acknowledged that an unauthorized entity accessed some of its data, but the full extent of the breach remains unclear.

Kodak stated that the breach involved only a limited amount of data, although the company is still investigating the claims made by ShinyHunters. The group has issued a deadline for the company to respond by June 18, 2026, threatening to release the data publicly if demands are unmet.

Kodak’s Response and Actions

In response to the breach, Kodak has engaged external cybersecurity specialists to investigate the incident. The company is collaborating with law enforcement and believes that its systems remain secure. Kodak has yet to verify the full scope of the compromised data and is working to determine if any notification requirements under data protection laws have been triggered.

Despite the breach, Kodak reports no disruptions to its services or operations. The company has pledged to update the public as more information becomes available.

Background on ShinyHunters

ShinyHunters is a well-known cybercriminal group involved in numerous high-profile data breaches and extortion schemes. In 2026 alone, they have claimed responsibility for attacks on Instructure Canvas, Charter Communications, and Oracle PeopleSoft users, among others.

Typically, the group employs social engineering tactics and vishing to gain access to sensitive information. However, they have not provided any proof to substantiate their claims regarding the Kodak breach.

The ongoing investigation seeks to determine the full impact of the breach on Kodak and its customers, with the company committed to transparency and security improvements moving forward.
