Zimbra Releases Fixes for Critical SNMP and XSS Flaws

Zimbra Releases Fixes for Critical SNMP and XSS Flaws

Posted on July 21, 2026 By CWS

Zimbra has recently implemented crucial updates to rectify several significant security vulnerabilities. Among these, a critical flaw in the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) monitoring component has been addressed, potentially impacting users if left unpatched.

Addressing Multiple Security Vulnerabilities

The latest update, version 10.1.20, resolves a total of nine security issues. The most notable is a command injection vulnerability in the SNMP monitoring component, which poses a serious risk when SNMP notifications are active. This update is essential for maintaining system integrity and security.

Cross-Site Scripting Flaws in Web Client

In addition to the SNMP issue, Zimbra has also patched four cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities within the Classic Web Client. These vulnerabilities could allow malicious scripts to be executed under specific conditions, posing a threat to user data and system security. The identified flaws include:

  • A stored XSS vulnerability where attachment filenames could trigger scripts.
  • An XSS vulnerability where crafted fields could execute scripts.
  • An XSS vulnerability allowing malicious scripts through crafted fields upon rendering.
  • An XSS vulnerability exploiting crafted attachments to execute scripts.

Additional Security Enhancements

Moreover, Zimbra has addressed a mail forwarding restriction bypass, identified as CVE-2026-50055. This flaw, discovered by Rapid7 security researcher Jonah Burgess, could allow authenticated users to bypass restrictions and exfiltrate emails. The company emphasizes the importance of applying these updates promptly to prevent potential exploitation.

Zimbra’s commitment to security is reflected in its approach to these vulnerabilities, adhering to industry best practices by limiting information disclosure regarding specific fixes.

Importance of Timely Updates

The urgency of applying these patches cannot be overstated, as XSS vulnerabilities in email software have historically been exploited by malicious actors. Although there’s no evidence of these specific vulnerabilities being actively exploited, ensuring that systems are updated remains a top priority for user safety and data protection.

By rolling out these updates, Zimbra demonstrates its proactive stance in securing its software and protecting its users from potential cyber threats.
