Revolut Data Breach Exposes User Information

Revolut Data Breach Exposes User Information

Posted on September 14, 2026 By CWS

Revolut, a leading fintech company based in London, has alerted some of its users that their personal and financial data was exposed in a recent security incident. Known for providing banking and investment services globally, Revolut faced this breach when a third party masquerading as a government entity accessed user information.

Scope of the Data Breach

Revolut, which serves over 80 million users across 160 countries, disclosed that last week, a fraction of its clientele had sensitive data exposed. This breach involved personal details such as names, addresses, contact numbers, email addresses, dates of birth, occupations, and even copies of identification documents like driver’s licenses and passports.

Additionally, financial data, which included International Bank Account Numbers (IBANs), account statements, withdrawal records, and transaction histories involving cryptocurrency, was also compromised. This incident highlights significant vulnerabilities in data protection, especially when dealing with entities posing as legitimate authorities.

Details of the Security Incident

The breach occurred when the attackers used a legitimate-looking domain to request information, fooling Revolut into treating it as an official government inquiry. Such requests are typically mandated by law for financial institutions to comply with.

After realizing the breach, Revolut acted promptly by disabling the attackers’ email and reporting the incident to the concerned governmental and regulatory bodies. A spokesperson from Revolut confirmed that the company has been in close contact with affected parties to mitigate any potential damage.

Company’s Response and User Impact

According to Revolut, only a small portion of their user base was impacted by the breach. However, the exact number of affected individuals remains undisclosed. Revolut assured customers that neither their systems nor their funds were compromised during this breach.

The company has reached out to those affected, providing necessary information and support to alleviate concerns. This proactive approach aims to maintain trust and transparency with its users amidst growing cybersecurity challenges.

As fintech companies continue to innovate, the importance of robust security measures becomes ever more critical. Revolut’s recent breach serves as a reminder of the evolving threats in the digital space and the need for vigilance in protecting user data.
