Gcore Highlights 150% Rise in DDoS Threats

Gcore Highlights 150% Rise in DDoS Threats

Posted on March 24, 2026 By CWS

In a recent announcement from Luxembourg, Gcore, a leading provider of global infrastructure and security solutions, has revealed significant findings from its latest report on DDoS attacks. Covering the last two quarters of 2025, the report details a substantial increase in both the frequency and sophistication of these cyber threats.

Escalation in Attack Frequency and Complexity

The findings indicate a remarkable rise in DDoS attack volumes, with total incidents escalating from 512,000 in Q4 2024 to 1.3 million in Q4 2025. This surge underscores a new era of cyber threats characterized by increased scale and complexity, driven by advanced botnet infrastructures.

According to Gcore, the rapid advancement in attack capabilities is evidenced by a sixfold increase in bandwidth consumption, reaching 12 Tbps. This highlights the urgent need for businesses to adopt comprehensive security measures that can detect and mitigate threats effectively.

Sector-Specific Vulnerabilities and Geographic Trends

Particularly vulnerable sectors include technology, which accounted for 34% of attacks, followed by the financial services sector at 20%, and the gaming industry at 19%. These sectors are especially targeted due to their reliance on uninterrupted service availability.

Geographically, Latin America emerged as a major source of these attacks, with Mexico and Brazil contributing to over half of the observed activity. Such patterns underline the importance of implementing security strategies that can operate close to the source of these attacks.

Adapting to Evolving Cyber Threats

Andrey Slastenov, Gcore’s Head of Security, stressed the necessity for businesses to enhance their cybersecurity strategies. He noted that the ease and affordability of launching DDoS attacks have increased, prompting organizations to rethink their defenses.

Network-layer attacks made up 82% of all incidents, reflecting their cost-effectiveness for cybercriminals. Additionally, while most network-layer attacks were brief, application-layer attacks showed a trend towards longer durations, indicating a shift towards more targeted and impactful campaigns.

To address these evolving threats, businesses are urged to adopt globally distributed protection strategies that can mitigate attacks at their origin. Gcore’s report serves as a critical reminder of the dynamic nature of cyber threats and the need for proactive defense mechanisms.

For detailed insights, the full report is available on Gcore’s website.

Gcore, headquartered in Luxembourg, continues to lead in providing cutting-edge AI, cloud, and security solutions, helping organizations worldwide to navigate the complexities of modern digital landscapes.
