Microsoft 365 Outage Disrupts Key Business Services

Microsoft 365 Outage Disrupts Key Business Services

Posted on July 24, 2026 By CWS

On July 23, 2026, a major outage struck Microsoft 365 services, significantly affecting various enterprise applications including Microsoft Teams, SharePoint Online, and OneDrive. This disruption primarily impacted users with traffic routed through North America.

Scope of the Disruption

The outage, identified by Microsoft under incident ID MO1437424, began at 8:14 PM IST and was resolved by 11:56 PM IST. It affected a wide range of services such as Copilot Chat, Microsoft Purview, and Power BI, causing potential hindrances in productivity, collaboration, and compliance for businesses.

Users reported difficulties in accessing online services, loading applications, and utilizing AI features. The issue was centralized around Microsoft 365’s North American network region, causing widespread disruptions.

Services Impacted

According to Microsoft’s service-health notifications, the outage impacted key services like Microsoft OneDrive, SharePoint Online, Microsoft Teams, and others. Users faced challenges in file retrieval, workflow execution, and leveraging AI-powered features, indicating a significant operational impact.

Microsoft communicated via their official status account, advising administrators to consult the admin center for more details on the incident.

Root Cause and Resolution

Microsoft traced the cause of the outage to a recent network configuration change. At 11:22 PM IST, the company began reverting this change while exploring alternative network paths to restore service.

The complexity of Microsoft 365’s infrastructure means that a single network update can affect multiple applications simultaneously. After reversing the configuration change, Microsoft observed improved service availability and confirmed recovery by 12:06 AM IST on July 24.

Post-resolution, Microsoft monitored the situation closely and engaged with affected users to ensure normal operations had resumed.

This incident highlights the vulnerabilities of cloud infrastructure and its impact on business operations. Organizations are advised to review the health alerts from the Microsoft 365 admin center and assess any operational consequences.

As of now, Microsoft has not released a detailed root-cause analysis or a post-incident report. Future updates may be provided under incident ID MO1437424 in the admin center.
