SerpApi Challenges SearchApi Over Technology Misuse

SerpApi Challenges SearchApi Over Technology Misuse

Posted on February 22, 2026 By CWS

AUSTIN, Texas, Feb. 19, 2026 – Renowned search data provider SerpApi has initiated a lawsuit against Zilvinas Kucinskas and his company, SearchApi, in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas. The legal action accuses SearchApi of unlawfully appropriating SerpApi’s proprietary technology to develop a competing product.

Allegations of Intellectual Property Theft

According to the complaint filed by SerpApi, Mr. Kucinskas, who previously served as a software engineering contractor for the company, allegedly misused his access to confidential information. The claims include unauthorized retention of source code and continued access to SerpApi’s servers post-contract termination in 2021.

Particularly concerning is the accusation that, mere days before his departure, Mr. Kucinskas downloaded an exclusive customer list from SerpApi. This alleged breach of trust enabled the launch of SearchApi, a venture purportedly mirroring SerpApi’s offerings.

Legal Actions and Company Statements

Chad Anson, SerpApi’s general counsel, stated that Mr. Kucinskas attempted to conceal his activities but was ultimately uncovered through their investigation. Despite multiple attempts at resolution, Mr. Kucinskas reportedly remained uncooperative, prompting SerpApi to proceed with the lawsuit.

The lawsuit aims to safeguard the substantial investments and efforts SerpApi has dedicated to establishing its platform. The company emphasizes its commitment to maintaining the security and trust of its clientele by holding Mr. Kucinskas accountable.

SerpApi’s Position and Future Implications

SerpApi’s decision to engage in legal proceedings underscores its determination to protect its technological assets. The company has published the full complaint, including a sworn declaration from a forensic expert, to ensure transparency in this matter.

Founded in 2017, SerpApi is a pioneer in providing real-time access to search data across platforms such as Google, Bing, and YouTube. With over 100 specialized APIs, it supports a variety of applications, including AI models, SEO strategies, cybersecurity, and E-commerce research.

This case not only highlights the challenges of protecting intellectual property in the technology sector but also reinforces the importance of securing customer trust and data integrity in an increasingly competitive market.
