Microsoft Issues Urgent Update for Windows 11 Bugs

Microsoft Issues Urgent Update for Windows 11 Bugs

Posted on September 16, 2026 By CWS

Microsoft has announced the release of an urgent out-of-band update for Windows 11 users following issues that emerged from the recent Patch Tuesday. The update, known as KB5129195, aims to resolve significant stability problems that have affected both enterprise and personal computers.

Patch Tuesday’s Unexpected Challenges

The need for this rapid update arose shortly after Microsoft rolled out an extensive security patch earlier this month. The original update was one of the largest ever released, addressing over 960 vulnerabilities, including 106 critical ones. However, the update inadvertently caused several operational issues.

The most severe problems affected Remote Desktop Services (RDS), leading to disruptions in RDP connections and various system functionalities. Users experienced sign-in errors and systems hanging during configuration, forcing some administrators to revert updates or perform hard resets.

Impact on Virtualization and Audio Systems

Another significant issue identified was related to virtualization. Problems with HCS-managed virtual machines blocked the sharing of host folders with Linux guests using the Plan9 protocol, impacting tools like Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL).

Additionally, some USB Audio Class 1.0 devices stopped functioning correctly, producing errors and unresponsive audio controls. While the latest update addresses some audio issues, Microsoft continues to work on a complete fix.

Security Enhancements and Ongoing Challenges

Alongside stability improvements, the urgent update strengthens security against a privilege escalation vulnerability in the Windows User-Mode Power Service. This vulnerability had not been fully mitigated in the initial patch, potentially allowing attackers to gain higher system privileges.

Despite the new update, some issues remain unresolved, particularly concerning USB audio devices and graphics driver problems with certain AMD Radeon hardware. Microsoft is actively working to address these lingering problems.

For IT administrators, the update process is straightforward and typically requires a single restart, although some systems may need multiple reboots due to pending updates. The update is available via Windows Update and can also be deployed through various management tools.

Recommendations for IT Administrators

IT teams are advised to prioritize updating systems that were affected by the initial Patch Tuesday vulnerabilities. Testing the update in a controlled environment is recommended to ensure stability before widespread deployment.

As Microsoft continues to address remaining issues, monitoring the Windows release health dashboard will be crucial for staying informed about future updates and resolutions.
