Apple has released a series of crucial security updates this week to address multiple vulnerabilities across its major platforms, including iOS, iPadOS, macOS Tahoe, and Safari. The updates aim to resolve numerous security issues, particularly targeting 26 flaws identified in WebKit.
Comprehensive Security Fixes Across Platforms
The latest software versions—iOS 26.5.2, iPadOS 26.5.2, and macOS Tahoe 26.5.2—introduce 37 security patches across various components such as IOGPUFamily, kernel, libxslt, Web Extensions, WebKit, and WebRTC. These updates are designed to fortify the defenses of Apple devices against potential threats.
The 26 vulnerabilities found in WebKit can be exploited through malicious web pages, potentially allowing attackers to extract data, leak sensitive information, crash the Safari browser, corrupt memory, access process memory, hijack clipboard data, and execute web content outside its designated sandbox.
Addressing Critical System Vulnerabilities
In addition to WebKit issues, 11 other flaws have been identified within different operating system components. These vulnerabilities could lead to system crashes, unauthorized kernel memory access, kernel state exposure, memory corruption, and both process and browser crashes.
According to Apple’s advisories, at least four of these security issues were uncovered using advanced AI technologies, reported by security researchers from Anthropic and OpenAI Codex. These discoveries underscore the growing role of AI in cybersecurity research.
Safari Update and User Recommendations
On the same day, Apple also introduced Safari version 26.5.2, which addresses 31 vulnerabilities related to Web Extensions, WebKit, WebKit Canvas, WebKit Storage, and WebRTC. This update extends the security improvements to macOS Sonoma and macOS Sequoia users, following their initial release for macOS Tahoe 26.6 beta.
Although Apple has not reported any active exploitation of these vulnerabilities in the wild, the company advises users to promptly update their devices to mitigate potential risks. Many of the addressed issues affect WebKit and could be triggered by visiting harmful websites. For additional details, users can refer to Apple’s security updates page.
The swift response and regular updates highlight Apple’s commitment to safeguarding its ecosystem against emerging threats, ensuring a secure user experience across its platforms.
