Aura Reveals Data Breach Affecting 900,000 Users

Aura Reveals Data Breach Affecting 900,000 Users

Posted on March 19, 2026 By CWS

Online security provider Aura has reported a data breach following a phishing attack on an employee. This breach exposed approximately 900,000 records, primarily comprising names and email addresses.

Details of the Security Breach

The breach was initiated through a phone phishing scheme that granted the attackers access to an employee’s account for nearly an hour. Upon realizing the breach, Aura swiftly cut off access and activated their incident response measures. External cybersecurity and legal experts were brought in, and law enforcement was notified.

The compromised data predominantly included names, email addresses, addresses, and phone numbers of about 20,000 current customers and 15,000 former ones. Importantly, no Social Security numbers, passwords, or financial details were affected, as confirmed by Aura.

Company Response and Data Protection

Aura emphasized that sensitive customer data is encrypted and access is tightly controlled. The company has implemented organizational, technical, and physical safeguards to minimize exposure in such events, which functioned effectively during this incident. Impacted customers are being notified and offered necessary support, although Aura asserts there’s no significant increase in risk for them.

The exact timing of the attack and the identity of those responsible remain undisclosed. Aura has yet to provide additional details, though inquiries have been made for further clarification.
