Bluesky Faces Major Disruption Amid DDoS Attack

Bluesky Faces Major Disruption Amid DDoS Attack

Posted on April 20, 2026 By CWS

Bluesky, a decentralized social media platform, experienced significant service disruptions last week due to a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack. The platform, known for its microblogging features, faced a challenging situation as it struggled to maintain its services.

Details of the Attack

The attack commenced late on April 15, Pacific Time, and extended into the following day. Bluesky characterized the incident as a sophisticated DDoS attack, resulting in intermittent outages for users accessing feeds, notifications, threads, and search functionalities.

Despite the severity of the attack, Bluesky assured users that there was no evidence of unauthorized access to private user data. This reassurance highlights the company’s commitment to user security, even amidst such cyber threats.

Possible Perpetrators

While the attack’s origin remains unclear, a group known as 313 Team claimed responsibility. This group, also identified as ‘Islamic Cyber Resistance in Iraq,’ is reputed to be a pro-Iran hacktivist organization. However, their involvement has not been independently verified.

The 313 Team has been active during the ongoing geopolitical tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. Although capable of executing disruptive attacks, such groups sometimes exaggerate their capabilities or make false claims regarding their involvement.

Bluesky’s Response and Mitigation

In response to the continuous assault, Bluesky implemented measures to mitigate the impact and prevent prolonged service outages. Initially, 313 Team announced that the attack would last for three hours, but Bluesky’s status updates indicated that the disruption continued for approximately 24 hours.

Despite the ongoing threats, Bluesky managed to minimize the attack’s impact, showcasing its resilience and capability to handle cyber threats effectively. The company continues to monitor the situation closely to ensure user data security and service stability.

This incident highlights the increasing prevalence of DDoS attacks and the need for robust cybersecurity measures to protect online platforms. As cyber threats evolve, companies like Bluesky must remain vigilant and prepared to counteract such challenges.
