Capcom Data Breach Exposes 11 Million Emails

Capcom Data Breach Exposes 11 Million Emails

Posted on October 23, 2026 By CWS

Japanese gaming giant Capcom has revealed a significant data breach, impacting 11 million email addresses and compromising personal details for a small group of individuals. The breach underscores the ever-present threat of cyberattacks in the online gaming industry.

Details of the Unauthorized Access

The breach was identified on October 19, when Capcom discovered unauthorized access to its CAPCOM ID service. This platform is used by players to access various online services and games. During the breach, hackers managed to extract email addresses of over 11.7 million users, along with other account-related information such as account creation dates, last login details, and IP addresses.

For a subset of 43 users, additional personal data was compromised, including birth dates, gender, regional information, and nicknames. This highlights the hackers’ ability to access sensitive personal information, raising concerns over privacy and data security.

Security Measures and Impact

In the wake of the breach, Capcom acted swiftly to address the security lapse. The company confirmed that while some account passwords were altered by the attackers, no user passwords were directly compromised. As a precaution, Capcom reset passwords for the affected accounts and has assured users that its services remain operational.

Capcom has taken steps to notify affected users and established a dedicated contact point for customer inquiries. It is actively collaborating with authorities to investigate the breach and prevent future incidents, emphasizing its commitment to strengthening information security.

Warnings and Future Outlook

In light of the breach, Capcom has advised users to be cautious of phishing attempts and unsolicited communications, particularly those mimicking the company or its affiliates. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance in online interactions.

Capcom has expressed its determination to conduct thorough investigations and implement robust security measures to avert similar occurrences. This proactive stance is crucial in maintaining user trust and safeguarding personal data in an increasingly digital world.

This incident is part of a broader trend of cyber threats targeting major corporations, underscoring the ongoing challenges in cybersecurity. As companies continue to enhance their defenses, the battle against cybercrime persists, necessitating constant vigilance and adaptation.
