Okta’s Earnings Jump as AI Security Demand Grows

Okta’s Earnings Jump as AI Security Demand Grows

Posted on August 27, 2026 By CWS

Shares of Okta, a leader in identity security, experienced a significant boost following the announcement of robust second-quarter financial outcomes. The company’s positive performance has been driven by a rising demand for artificial intelligence (AI) identity security solutions.

Strong Financial Performance

During after-hours trading on Wednesday, Okta’s stock rose over 19%, surpassing $160, a substantial increase from its closing price of $134.42. For the fiscal second quarter ending July 31, Okta reported a revenue of $805 million, marking an 11% increase compared to the same timeframe last year. Notably, subscription revenue grew by 12%, reaching $793 million.

The company reported a GAAP net income of $116 million, translating to 65 cents per diluted share, which improved from $67 million or 37 cents per share in the previous year. Adjusted earnings per share stood at $1.05, up from 91 cents the year before.

Expanding Demand for AI Security

Okta’s subscription backlog, quantified as remaining performance obligations (RPO), saw a 17% increase to $4.86 billion. Furthermore, the current remaining performance obligations (cPRO), indicative of revenue expected within the next year, rose by 14% to $2.59 billion.

In terms of cash flow, operating cash flow surged to $234 million from $167 million, while free cash flow increased to $227 million from $162 million. The company also reported that its GAAP operating income more than doubled, reaching $107 million.

Strategic Initiatives and Acquisitions

As Okta broadens its focus to include AI agents, which autonomously interact with enterprise systems, CEO Todd McKinnon emphasized the need for robust identity security. Okta is advancing its capabilities to help organizations manage AI agents, ensuring secure connections and controlled access.

The company’s offerings, such as Okta for AI Agents and Auth0 for AI Agents, are designed to enhance the security and governance of AI interactions. Additionally, Okta’s acquisition of Permiso Security, finalized in July, extends its capabilities in identity threat detection and response.

Permiso’s platform enhances security across multi-cloud environments by identifying and mitigating threats linked to human and agentic identities. The integration of Permiso’s technologies into Okta’s platform is set to enhance threat detection and response strategies.

Future Outlook

Following a successful quarter, Okta has revised its fiscal 2027 forecast, projecting annual revenue between $3.216 billion and $3.226 billion, representing growth of 10% to 11%. This outlook underscores Okta’s strategic focus on AI security solutions and its commitment to expanding its market presence.

Okta’s strategic initiatives and robust financial performance highlight its leadership in the identity security sector, particularly as the demand for AI-driven solutions continues to rise.
