Cybersecurity Breach Hits UFP Technologies

Cybersecurity Breach Hits UFP Technologies

Posted on February 25, 2026 By CWS

On Tuesday, UFP Technologies, a well-known manufacturer of medical devices, announced a cybersecurity breach that led to data theft and IT system disruptions. The firm, based in Massachusetts, is renowned for its expertise in custom-engineered solutions for healthcare, including sterile packaging and specialized components.

Details of the Cybersecurity Incident

UFP Technologies disclosed in an 8-K filing with the SEC that it identified an intrusion into its IT systems on February 14. This breach has notably impacted several critical systems, including those essential for billing and producing customer delivery labels.

The company stated, “Some data related to the company appears to have been stolen or destroyed.” Despite this, UFP Technologies has leveraged its contingency plans and data backup systems to address the challenges posed by the incident, allowing operations to continue substantially unimpeded.

Investigation and Impact

Current investigations reveal that attackers have exfiltrated files, though UFP Technologies is still assessing the types of information compromised, including the potential exposure of personal data. The company has reassured stakeholders that the cyberattack has not materially impacted its operations, and it anticipates insurance will cover many costs associated with containing and investigating the incident.

The nature of the attack suggests involvement of ransomware, characterized by data theft and the use of file-encrypting malware. However, no known ransomware group has claimed responsibility for targeting UFP Technologies as of now.

Industry Context and Related Incidents

This incident at UFP Technologies is part of a broader pattern of cyberattacks impacting the healthcare sector. Similar breaches have recently affected other organizations, such as a US healthcare diagnostics firm and a hospital system in Mississippi, both dealing with significant data breaches and operational disruptions due to ransomware attacks.

These events underscore the critical need for robust cybersecurity measures in the healthcare industry to protect sensitive data and ensure operational continuity.

As UFP Technologies continues its investigation, the company remains focused on mitigating the impact of the breach and enhancing its cybersecurity framework to prevent future incidents.
