Google Enhances Ad Security with Gemini AI

Google Enhances Ad Security with Gemini AI

Posted on April 20, 2026 By CWS

Google has taken a significant leap in online ad security by integrating its Gemini AI models into its systems. This enhancement is a response to the growing use of generative AI by cybercriminals to launch complex advertising scams. The latest development is outlined in Google’s 2025 Ads Safety Report, which highlights a remarkable improvement in the company’s ability to detect and neutralize these threats.

Ad Security Reinforcements

Traditional methods focusing solely on keyword detection have become insufficient as cybercriminals constantly evolve their evasion tactics. To combat these sophisticated threats, Google’s Gemini AI analyzes a vast array of data signals in real-time. This approach includes evaluating metrics such as account age, behavioral cues, and overall campaign patterns to discern the real intent behind advertisements.

This proactive strategy enables Google to detect and block complex malicious content before it reaches users, even as scammers attempt to obscure their activities. The integration of Gemini AI has led to significant actions, such as blocking over 8.3 billion harmful ads and suspending 24.9 million advertiser accounts globally in 2025.

Real-Time Defense and Efficiency

Google’s advanced use of Gemini AI allows for real-time defense against AI-generated scams. By the end of 2025, the system could review most Responsive Search Ads instantaneously, blocking harmful content at submission. This capability is set to expand to other ad formats this year, improving the overall efficiency of handling user reports.

According to the report, the number of user reports managed by Google quadrupled in 2025 compared to the previous year, freeing up human experts to tackle more complex threats. Despite the aggressive blocking of potential threats, Google aims to minimize disruptions to legitimate businesses, achieving an 80% reduction in incorrect advertiser suspensions.

Ensuring Legitimate Advertising

Gemini AI’s advanced analysis capabilities extend beyond basic text and image patterns, enabling the system to differentiate between genuine marketing offers and sophisticated phishing schemes. This nuanced detection helps maintain a balance between removing harmful content and allowing honest businesses to operate smoothly.

Google’s commitment to security also includes a strict verification program to confirm advertiser identities upfront. This approach prioritizes the removal of malicious content while ensuring legitimate advertising campaigns can continue without interference.
