Apple Updates macOS, iOS to Fix Numerous Security Flaws

Apple Updates macOS, iOS to Fix Numerous Security Flaws

Posted on May 12, 2026 By CWS

Apple has recently published multiple security advisories detailing critical vulnerabilities addressed in its operating systems. The announcement, made on Monday, highlights the company’s commitment to maintaining user security across its platforms.

Extensive Vulnerabilities in iOS and iPadOS

The latest updates for iOS and iPadOS, version 26.5, tackle over 60 Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVEs), with significant attention given to 20 issues within WebKit. These vulnerabilities could potentially lead to system crashes, unauthorized access to sensitive data, and security bypasses.

Additional flaws addressed in these updates could allow for denial-of-service attacks, unauthorized data access, privilege escalation, and user tracking. These updates emphasize Apple’s proactive measures in safeguarding user information.

macOS Receives Comprehensive Security Patches

Apple’s security updates are not limited to iOS and iPadOS. The company has also released macOS Tahoe 26.5, which resolves nearly 80 security vulnerabilities. Specific threats to macOS included the potential for unauthorized access to user data and privilege escalation to root-level access.

Moreover, these updates address vulnerabilities that could enable sandbox escapes, crash systems, bypass Gatekeeper, and execute code with elevated privileges. Apple has also applied these patches to macOS Sequoia 15.7.7 and macOS Sonoma 14.8.7.

Updates Extend to Other Apple Platforms

In addition to updates for iOS and macOS, Apple has rolled out security patches for other platforms, including watchOS, tvOS, and visionOS. These platforms, sharing the foundational architecture of iOS, benefit from similar security enhancements.

Among the advisories, users are informed of a patch for a vulnerability that allowed the recovery of deleted messages, which older iOS versions also received. It has been reported that this flaw was previously utilized by the FBI to access Signal chats from a device.

While Apple has not identified any active exploitation of these vulnerabilities in the wild, the updates are crucial in maintaining robust security across its ecosystem.

The company’s ongoing efforts to enhance security are evident with these updates, reflecting its dedication to user privacy and data protection. Users are encouraged to keep their devices updated to benefit from the latest security measures.
