Massive Data Breach at Cognizant’s TriZetto Affects Millions

Posted on March 7, 2026 By CWS

Major Security Breach at TriZetto

TriZetto Provider Solutions, the healthcare technology arm of Cognizant, has revealed a significant security breach that compromised the sensitive health data of 3,433,965 individuals. The company recently announced this breach, highlighting the increasing threats faced by the healthcare sector, especially third-party service providers.

Timeline of the Breach

The breach initially took place on November 19, 2024, but was not discovered until November 28, 2025. This extensive period allowed perpetrators to remain undetected and access TriZetto’s systems, extracting full names and other personal identifiers linked to sensitive healthcare details.

The delay in identifying the breach raises serious concerns regarding the effectiveness of network monitoring and threat detection within the healthcare technology industry. Maine’s Attorney General was informed of the breach on February 6, 2026, with 1,128 victims identified as residents of Maine.

Impact and Response

Following the discovery, TriZetto launched an investigation and began notifying affected individuals on February 6, 2026. The extracted data’s sensitivity means victims are now at a heightened risk of spear-phishing, medical identity theft, and financial fraud.

To mitigate the potential fallout, TriZetto has partnered with Kroll, a security firm, to offer affected patients a year of free credit monitoring and identity theft protection. Cybersecurity experts advise victims to freeze their credit reports and monitor medical billing for unauthorized claims.

Broader Implications

This breach, due to its scale, ranks among the largest healthcare supply chain incidents reported recently. It underscores the need for robust security measures and rapid response protocols to protect sensitive patient information.
