Earn CPE Credits with SRA’s Purple Team Exercises

Earn CPE Credits with SRA’s Purple Team Exercises

Posted on April 14, 2026 By CWS

Philadelphia, United States, April 14th, 2026 – CyberNewswire

Cybersecurity professionals now have a new avenue to earn Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits. Through active participation in Security Risk Advisors (SRA) Purple Team exercises, recognized by both GIAC and ISC2, individuals can enhance their skills and earn credits simultaneously.

Interactive Learning Approach

Unlike traditional CPE activities, which may include passive learning through webinars or online courses, SRA’s Purple Team exercises offer a hands-on experience. During these sessions, cybersecurity analysts, engineers, and incident responders collaborate to test real-world MITRE ATT&CK tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs). Participants engage in live simulations of cyber attacks, allowing them to assess and refine their detection and response capabilities.

Key Benefits of Participation

Participants in an SRA Purple Team exercise gain direct experience with MITRE ATT&CK techniques that are critical to the current threat landscape. This hands-on approach helps teams identify both strengths and gaps within their existing security tools and processes. The outcomes of these exercises are well-documented in VECTR, offering a structured framework for future reference and development.

Moreover, these exercises contribute significantly to GIAC and ISC2 certification maintenance. Each standard engagement involves approximately 15 hours of dedicated testing, translating to 15 CPE credits per participant. This is an efficient way for professionals holding certifications such as GPEN, GCIH, or CISSP to fulfill their renewal requirements without incurring additional costs.

Certification and Reporting Process

Beginning in April 2026, SRA provides each active participant with a certificate that includes necessary details such as participant name, activity name, engagement dates, hours of participation, and a summary justification. This documentation supports the standard CPE reporting workflow for both GIAC and ISC2.

For GIAC and ISC2 members, the activity is categorized under Group A credits within the Education category, specifically under ‘Courses and Seminars – Other’. Participants can claim one CPE credit per hour of active learning, with entries accepted in increments of 0.25, 0.5, and 0.75 hours, capped at 40 credits per entry.

Security Risk Advisors invites current and prospective clients to reach out for more information or to discuss documentation and the benefits of Purple Team programs.
