Google Chrome 152 Launches with Key Security Fixes

Google Chrome 152 Launches with Key Security Fixes

Posted on August 26, 2026 By CWS

Google has rolled out Chrome 152, an essential update for Windows, macOS, and Linux users. This release addresses 327 security improvements, including 10 critical vulnerabilities, marking it as a significant update for both individual and enterprise environments.

Key Details of Chrome 152 Release

Available as version 152.0.7977.64 for Linux and 152.0.7977.64/.65 for Windows and macOS, Chrome 152 will reach users in the coming days. The update primarily tackles memory-safety issues, including several use-after-free vulnerabilities, which occur when software accesses memory after it has been released.

Such vulnerabilities could potentially allow attackers to crash the browser, access sensitive information, or execute code within the affected Chrome process.

Critical Vulnerabilities and Their Impact

The update addresses critical issues across various Chrome components. Notably, CVE-2026-79282 is a use-after-free vulnerability in ANGLE, Chrome’s graphics translation layer, reported by a security researcher known as Goodluck, earning a $25,000 reward.

Other critical vulnerabilities affect components like Aura, Chromecast, Views, and Safe Browsing. Specific vulnerabilities include CVE-2026-79290 and CVE-2026-79052 in Aura, and CVE-2026-79054 and CVE-2026-79224 in Chromecast, all of which are use-after-free issues.

High-Severity Fixes and Recommendations

In addition to critical fixes, Chrome 152 also includes a series of high-severity updates addressing components such as ANGLE, WebGL, V8, and WebRTC. These involve buffer overflows, out-of-bounds reads, and type-confusion errors, among others. These vulnerabilities, if exploited, could allow malicious web pages to execute harmful graphics or WebGL data.

Google has not reported any active exploitation of these vulnerabilities. However, the company is limiting access to detailed bug information until a majority of users have applied the update. Organizations should ensure that managed systems receive Chrome 152 through their usual update channels.

Users are encouraged to update Chrome immediately to benefit from these security enhancements. To update, open the browser menu, navigate to Help, select About Google Chrome, and relaunch the browser once the update is downloaded.

By staying up-to-date with the latest browser version, users and organizations can protect themselves against potential threats and enhance their cybersecurity posture.
