Meta Platforms Experience Global Outage, Users Affected

Meta Platforms Experience Global Outage, Users Affected

Posted on June 13, 2026 By CWS

On Friday, a significant disruption impacted users of Meta’s social media platforms, Facebook and Instagram, on a global scale. This outage left millions struggling to access these services, sparking widespread dissatisfaction among users.

Global Disruption and User Complaints

The interruption spanned various time zones, prompting a deluge of complaints on monitoring sites and competing networks as users searched for answers. Platforms like Downdetector saw a surge in reports from North America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, all highlighting connectivity issues.

Users faced numerous challenges, such as unexpected logouts, failed login attempts, and difficulties in refreshing feeds. Error messages plagued both the mobile apps and desktop versions, indicating a deeper, backend issue rather than individual device problems.

Specific Issues Faced by Users

Instagram users reported issues with comment sections where interactions led to disappearing comments. Meanwhile, Facebook users struggled with login problems and account lockouts. The outage affected both Android and iOS apps, as well as web platforms, reinforcing the notion of a backend infrastructure failure.

Meta has not yet provided a detailed explanation for the outage. However, in line with previous incidents, the company is expected to update its status page as their technical team works towards a solution. During similar past disruptions, Meta has publicly acknowledged the issues and assured users of ongoing efforts to resolve them.

Implications for Businesses and Previous Outages

The outage extended its impact beyond individual users, affecting businesses and advertisers reliant on Meta’s platforms for operations. Disruptions in accessing Facebook Ads Manager and other business tools were reported, posing challenges for digital marketers and content creators dependent on these networks.

This incident is not isolated, as Meta’s infrastructure has faced significant outages before. A notable incident in October 2021 saw Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp go offline due to a BGP configuration error. Subsequent outages in March and December 2024 further highlighted the vulnerabilities in Meta’s systems.

As of this report, Meta has not confirmed the complete restoration of services. Users are encouraged to check Meta’s official status page and social media channels for the latest updates. This story is still developing and will be updated with new information.
