Telegram’s t.me Domain Suspension Disrupts Global Links

Telegram’s t.me Domain Suspension Disrupts Global Links

Posted on July 14, 2026 By CWS

The critical domain t[.]me, which is integral to Telegram’s operations, has been suspended under serverHold status by the .me registry. This action has severed access to all t[.]me short links worldwide, disrupting services dependent on these links.

Registry-Level Action Explained

According to WHOIS records, the domain is now under eight status flags, including serverHold. This status, applied by the .me registry operated by Identity Digital, overrides any settings from registrars or DNS providers, effectively disabling the domain’s DNS zone. This differs significantly from clientHold, which is generally applied for less severe issues like unverified contact information.

The domain, registered with GoDaddy.com, LLC since 2010, retains its registration but sits inoperable due to this registry-level action. The DNS settings still point to Google’s infrastructure, indicating the suspension is enforced at a higher registry level rather than at the DNS level.

Impact and Possible Causes

No official reason has been provided by Telegram or the .me registry regarding this suspension. The absence of clientHold or transfer-related status codes suggests the registry initiated this action independently, possibly due to security concerns, legal issues, or an administrative error. Meanwhile, Telegram’s core messaging services remain unaffected, operating on different domains and IPs.

Despite the t[.]me link disruption, independent monitoring has not reported any significant outages in Telegram’s primary functions, indicating that the core infrastructure remains intact.

Resolution and Future Outlook

Resolution of this suspension typically requires addressing the registry’s concerns, a process that can vary in duration based on the underlying issue. The restoration of services linked to the t[.]me domain lies in resolving these issues, which may take from several hours to a few days.

Until the hold is lifted, the global functionality of links using t[.]me remains compromised. Users may need to seek alternative methods to share content and connect within Telegram.

This incident highlights the critical nature of registry-level controls in internet infrastructure and the potential widespread impact of such actions on global digital communication services.
