The vulnerability is identified as CVE-2026-76784 and is classified as high-severity with a CVSS v4.0 score of 8.7. The flaw arises due to inadequate cryptographic protections in the local communication protocol utilized by Kasa devices. This issue can lead to unauthorized changes in device states, disruption of normal operations, or even denial-of-service conditions.
Attackers need only be on the same local network or within the wireless environment, requiring no authentication or user interaction, increasing the risk in shared or poorly secured networks.

According to TP-Link, the vulnerability allows attackers to capture and manipulate control messages exchanged between the Kasa app and devices.
