Chrome and Firefox Updates Fix 114 Security Flaws

Chrome and Firefox Updates Fix 114 Security Flaws

Posted on October 14, 2026 By CWS

Google and Mozilla have recently released significant updates for their Chrome and Firefox browsers, effectively addressing 114 security vulnerabilities. These updates aim to enhance user security by fixing critical issues that could potentially be exploited.

Chrome’s Latest Security Enhancements

The latest update for Chrome addressed 37 security issues, including seven critical memory-related vulnerabilities. Among these, a buffer overflow in ANGLE and several use-after-free problems in various components such as Browser, PDF, and Network were identified and resolved.

Google highlighted that use-after-free vulnerabilities accounted for most of the 29 high-severity bugs fixed in this update. In addition, a medium-severity flaw, also a use-after-free issue, was corrected.

According to Google’s advisory, 15 of these vulnerabilities were reported by Xinyang Ge, with contributions from Claude, although no bug bounty was awarded for them. Google itself identified 12 security flaws in the process.

Firefox’s Comprehensive Update

On the same day, Mozilla released Firefox version 158, which included patches for 77 security defects. Mozilla, alongside contributions from Amy Burnett of OpenAI, discovered most of these vulnerabilities.

The update targeted 30 high-severity issues, including use-after-free, sandbox escape, and privilege escalation vulnerabilities. Mozilla also introduced updates for Thunderbird and Firefox ESR, providing additional security enhancements.

Introducing Firefox Enterprise

In a move to cater to organizational needs, Mozilla launched Firefox Enterprise, a browser designed for entities requiring stringent security and compliance measures. This version includes a management console for policy and data management, providing IT teams with greater control over browser environments.

Firefox Enterprise integrates seamlessly with existing IT systems, allowing organizations to maintain their current identity providers, SIEMs, and MDMs while enhancing their browser management capabilities.

As cyber threats continue to evolve, these updates underscore the ongoing commitment of browser developers to safeguard user data and enhance software resilience. Users and organizations are encouraged to update their browsers to the latest versions to ensure optimal security.
