Chrome and Firefox Updates Fix Critical Security Flaws

Google and Mozilla have introduced essential updates for their Chrome and Firefox browsers, addressing numerous security vulnerabilities. Highlighting the importance of cybersecurity, both companies rolled out patches to mitigate risks associated with critical and high-severity flaws.

Chrome 152 Update: Key Vulnerabilities Addressed

The latest Chrome 152 update brings fixes for 26 distinct bugs, including two critical-severity use-after-free issues found in Shared Tab Groups and WebGL. Such vulnerabilities, identified as CVE-2026-84353 and CVE-2026-84352, pose significant security risks if left unpatched.

Beyond these critical issues, the update also resolves nine high-severity defects. These include problems related to use-after-free vulnerabilities, incorrect authorization methods, information leaks, improper input validations, uninitialized resources, and buffer overflow weaknesses. Of the 26 vulnerabilities addressed, only three were reported by external researchers, with Google not disclosing any bug bounty rewards at this time.

The Chrome 152 update is currently available as versions 152.0.7977.75/.76 for Windows and macOS users, and as version 152.0.7977.75 for Linux users.

Firefox 155 Patches Numerous Security Flaws

Meanwhile, Mozilla’s Firefox 155 update targets 29 security defects, including 13 high-severity issues such as use-after-free bugs, sandbox escape vulnerabilities, and memory corruption risks. These flaws were found within Firefox’s GC, Navigation, Audio/Video, Security, WebGPU, Core & HTML, and Grid components, as well as Firefox for Android.

Notably, three CVEs addressed in this update cover multiple bugs that could lead to serious memory corruption, potentially exploitable with significant effort. Mozilla has also released Firefox ESR 115.40, Firefox ESR 140.15, Firefox ESR 153.2, Thunderbird 155, Thunderbird 140.15, and Thunderbird 153.2, all incorporating fixes for these vulnerabilities.

Security Measures and Future Outlook

Both Google and Mozilla emphasize that there is currently no evidence suggesting these vulnerabilities have been exploited in the wild. This proactive approach demonstrates the companies’ commitment to maintaining secure browsing experiences for their users.

As cyber threats continue to evolve, it remains crucial for users to keep their software up to date. Regular updates not only enhance functionality but also protect against potential security breaches. Users are advised to install these updates promptly to safeguard their devices and personal information.
