In a concerning development, the immigration and legal case management platform DocketWise has announced that a significant data breach has exposed the personal, financial, and medical information of over 143,000 individuals.
The breach stemmed from unauthorized access to third-party partner repositories. Hackers used valid credentials to clone these repositories, as reported by DocketWise. An investigation initiated by the company in October 2025 revealed that some cloned repositories served as a data migration pipeline for the DocketWise application, which houses sensitive law firm records, including personally identifiable information (PII).
Details of the Data Breach
DocketWise has disclosed in a notice on its website that the type of PII potentially compromised includes names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, and passport and government ID numbers. Financial data was also targeted, with account numbers, payment card details, tax identification numbers, and health insurance policy numbers among the accessed information.
Additionally, the breach affected usernames and access credentials for non-financial accounts. The extent of the compromised information varies from person to person, according to the company.
Company’s Response and Ongoing Investigation
DocketWise has assured that the unauthorized access point has been sealed. The company also stated there is no evidence currently indicating that the compromised information has been leaked online. Notifications to potentially affected individuals began in early April, with an initial report to the Maine Attorney General’s Office indicating 116,000 affected users.
However, a more recent update to the Maine AGO adjusted this number to 143,480, and the investigation into the breach continues, suggesting the possibility of discovering a broader impact.
Protective Measures for Affected Individuals
In response to the breach, DocketWise is offering two years of complimentary credit monitoring and identity restoration services to those affected. The company advises vigilance against identity theft and potential fraud attempts, urging individuals to remain cautious.
