Intel and AMD Address Over 80 Security Flaws

On Tuesday, leading chip manufacturers Intel and AMD rolled out crucial security updates to rectify over 80 vulnerabilities found in their products. This significant move is part of their ongoing efforts to enhance cybersecurity and protect users from potential threats.

Intel’s Extensive Security Updates

Intel announced the publication of 42 advisories addressing 72 distinct vulnerabilities. Among these, several high-severity issues in the PROSet/Wireless WiFi software were resolved, which previously could have been exploited for privilege escalation and denial-of-service (DoS) attacks.

Further, Intel tackled critical vulnerabilities in a range of products, including Xeon processors, where issues related to privilege escalation and information disclosure were fixed. Other affected areas included Data Center Attestation Primitives, Alias Checking Trusted Module for Xeon processors, and Active Management Technology. These patches aim to prevent unauthorized access and potential system disruptions.

Additionally, medium-severity vulnerabilities were patched across various Intel products, such as the Transfer Learning Tool and Extension for PyTorch, ensuring a comprehensive security update.

AMD’s Security Enhancements

AMD also issued five advisories addressing around a dozen vulnerabilities. Notably, five high-severity issues were found in the Vitis development environment, which could lead to private key disclosure and arbitrary code execution if exploited.

AMD took steps to mitigate arbitrary code execution vulnerabilities in products like the Ryzen Master Utility and Power Design Manager. These updates are crucial to maintaining system integrity and protecting sensitive information.

The patches released by Intel and AMD reflect the ongoing battle against cybersecurity threats in the tech industry. By addressing these vulnerabilities promptly, both companies demonstrate a commitment to safeguarding their users’ data and system functionality.
