Obsidian Security Secures M, Hits .1B Valuation

Obsidian Security Secures $85M, Hits $1.1B Valuation

Posted on August 4, 2026 By CWS

Obsidian Security has successfully raised $85 million in its Series D funding round, reaching a valuation of $1.1 billion. This significant financial milestone was publicized on Tuesday and highlights the company’s growth trajectory in the AI security sector.

Funding Details and Strategic Investors

The latest financial backing, which elevates Obsidian’s total capital to over $200 million, was spearheaded by Crescent Cove Advisors. Other notable contributors include Greylock Partners and Menlo Ventures. The infusion of funds will primarily be directed towards enhancing Obsidian’s capabilities in agentic AI security, an area of growing importance as AI applications proliferate.

Innovative Platform for AI and SaaS Governance

Obsidian Security specializes in providing a platform designed to govern AI agents and SaaS applications. The platform is crucial in overseeing the operations of agents such as Microsoft Copilot Studio, Salesforce Agentforce, n8n, and Anthropic’s Claude Code and Cowork. It ensures these agents adhere to security protocols within third-party enterprise systems, including data warehouses, developer tools, CRMs, and collaboration applications.

A key feature of the platform is its runtime governance layer, which preemptively identifies and prevents privilege escalations, excessive data access, and policy breaches. By applying OWASP-aligned risk criteria, it enforces rules to mitigate potential threats before they materialize.

Enhanced Security Controls and Future Outlook

With its recent expansion, Obsidian has introduced native governance capabilities for Claude Code and Cowork. These enhancements allow security teams to fine-tune agent permissions, manage sensitive data access, and restrict unauthorized use of MCP servers.

The CEO of Obsidian, Hasan Imam, highlighted the growing challenge, stating, “AI agents naturally integrate with third-party applications where data and operations converge, presenting significant risks.” Imam emphasized the company’s commitment to transforming how security teams manage these risks, noting that currently, only a small fraction can effectively monitor and enforce policies in real-time.

Obsidian’s strategic vision aims to reverse this trend by providing comprehensive governance over AI agents’ activities within third-party applications, ensuring enterprises can maximize their investment returns in AI technology.

Related developments in the industry include significant funding rounds for companies like Balance Theory, DataBahn, and Discern Security, indicating a robust interest and investment in cybersecurity solutions.
