Cisco Acquires Astrix Security for Non-Human Identity Protection

Cisco Acquires Astrix Security for Non-Human Identity Protection

Posted on May 4, 2026 By CWS

Cisco has officially announced its plan to acquire Astrix Security, a company specializing in safeguarding non-human identities such as API keys, service accounts, and OAuth tokens. These components are increasingly utilized by applications and AI agents, reflecting a significant growth in the enterprise digital landscape.

Enhancing Zero Trust with Astrix Technology

In a recent blog post, Cisco highlighted the significance of this acquisition in expanding zero trust security principles to cater to the ‘agentic workforce.’ This term refers to the rapid proliferation of AI agents and machine identities that broaden the potential attack vectors for enterprises. Astrix Security’s solutions are designed to assist organizations in identifying, managing, and securing these non-human entities, particularly by detecting excessive privileges and monitoring for real-time threats.

The technology developed by Astrix provides critical insights into the functions of non-human identities and AI-driven agents. It offers lifecycle management and automates the detection and mitigation of unnecessary or harmful access, including compromised credentials and rogue agent activities. Cisco aims to incorporate these functionalities into its comprehensive security platform, which encompasses identity intelligence, secure access, and Duo IAM solutions.

Addressing Industry Concerns on AI Security

The acquisition underscores the escalating concerns within the industry regarding the risks associated with autonomous AI agents and machine-to-machine interactions. As AI technologies become more prevalent, the urgency for enterprises to secure non-human identities has intensified. Analysts and industry reports consistently emphasize the need for robust security measures to protect against the vulnerabilities introduced by AI adoption.

While Cisco has not disclosed the financial details of the acquisition, reports from Calcalist suggest that the deal is valued at approximately $400 million. This strategic move aligns with Cisco’s broader efforts to enhance security capabilities in response to evolving technological threats.

Strategic Integration and Future Prospects

Astrix Security recently raised $45 million in a Series B funding round in late 2024, showcasing its potential and the market’s confidence in its solutions. The integration of Astrix’s capabilities into Cisco’s existing security infrastructure is expected to strengthen its position in the cybersecurity domain.

This acquisition is a testament to Cisco’s commitment to advancing its security offerings and addressing the challenges posed by the increasing adoption of AI and machine identities. As the digital environment continues to evolve, securing non-human identities will remain a critical focus for enterprises aiming to protect their digital assets effectively.
