Chinese Phishing Network Targets Global Organizations

Chinese Phishing Network Targets Global Organizations

Posted on October 15, 2026 By CWS

A recent report has uncovered a massive phishing operation originating from China, which has been linked to over one billion malicious emails aimed at 75,000 organizations globally. The central element of this operation is a platform known as Iron Man System, which facilitates the deployment of fraudulent websites to harvest sensitive information without the need for custom-built tools.

How the Iron Man System Operates

The Iron Man System, detailed in the report, is a paid service offering phishing tools that are easy to use. This platform provides 2,360 phishing templates and extends its reach to 130 countries. However, these figures represent potential targets and tools rather than confirmed breaches across all organizations.

Researchers from Resecurity have conducted a thorough investigation by acquiring a license and testing the software in a controlled environment. Their analysis reveals that Iron Man operates using a Go backend in a containerized format, which users can deploy on their own servers. This system simplifies the execution of phishing campaigns by lowering technical requirements for cybercriminals.

Technical Insights and Global Context

The control panel of Iron Man System, available in both Chinese and English, allows users to manage fake web pages, brand settings, and subscription information. The research team explored version 6.3.1, which featured a countdown for subscriptions and focused on payment-related scams.

An important aspect of this operation is its commercial model, which mirrors other Chinese-language phishing services that offer pre-made templates and shared control panels, enabling criminals to target multiple countries simultaneously. Despite these similarities, the report does not confirm any direct connection between Iron Man and other services with similar offerings.

Infrastructure and Potential Countermeasures

Further investigation uncovered a publicly accessible Gitea server hosting the Iron Man System’s code and container registry, which included 911 published image versions and multiple registered accounts. The system’s infrastructure was found to include S3-compatible storage and a MariaDB database, with static credentials noted in historical builds.

Resecurity’s analysis suggests a potential weak point in the system’s licensing service. Disabling this service could disrupt multiple phishing deployments at once, offering a strategic opportunity for cybersecurity defenses.

Microsoft’s Digital Crimes Unit has played a role in efforts to disrupt this phishing operation, although indications point to ongoing activity. The report provides technical indicators of compromise but stops short of identifying any individuals behind the operation.

Conclusion and Defensive Strategies

The exposure of this extensive phishing network highlights the persistent global threat posed by cybercriminals. Organizations are encouraged to remain vigilant and update their defenses against emerging malware threats. Integrating threat intelligence feeds with existing security operations is essential to stay ahead of such sophisticated cyberattacks.
