Bank of America to Acquire UK Cybersecurity Leader

Posted on July 30, 2026 By CWS

Bank of America has unveiled its plans to acquire MDSec Consulting Limited, a UK-based firm specializing in information security. This strategic move, announced on Thursday, is expected to be finalized by the last quarter of 2026, pending regulatory clearances. While the financial specifics remain undisclosed, the acquisition signifies a significant step forward in enhancing Bank of America’s cybersecurity capabilities.

Strengthening Cybersecurity with MDSec

The acquisition of MDSec, headquartered in Macclesfield, England, is set to bolster Bank of America’s cybersecurity operations. MDSec is renowned for its technical information security services and employs around 65 skilled cybersecurity experts. This addition will enhance the bank’s existing infrastructure, particularly in Northern England.

Bank of America already maintains a strong presence in the region with over 1,400 employees based in Chester. The acquisition will integrate MDSec’s expertise with the bank’s current operations, including its cyber threat operations center, to create a formidable cybersecurity division.

Expanding Global Presence

With this acquisition, Bank of America aims to expand its footprint in the UK, leveraging MDSec’s local insights and technical prowess. This move aligns with the bank’s strategy to fortify its cybersecurity measures and protect its global operations from escalating digital threats.

Kris Fador, the Chief Information Security Officer at Bank of America, expressed admiration for MDSec’s capabilities. The acquisition not only brings new talent but also promises enhanced security services for the bank’s clients, further solidifying its position in the financial sector.

Looking Ahead: Innovation and Growth

Dominic Chell, co-founder of MDSec, highlighted the opportunity to drive innovation and technical advancement by joining a leading financial institution like Bank of America. This partnership reflects a shared commitment to excellence and innovation in cybersecurity practices.

As the acquisition process continues, stakeholders anticipate a seamless integration of MDSec’s operations into Bank of America, promising significant advancements in security capabilities and technological innovation. The collaboration is poised to set new benchmarks in the industry, ensuring robust protection against emerging cyber threats.

This acquisition marks a pivotal moment for both companies as they prepare to tackle future challenges in cybersecurity. With MDSec’s expertise, Bank of America is well-positioned to enhance its security framework and deliver superior services to its global clientele.
